Sunday Lenten Series

Classic Types of Prayer

We know, when we think about it, that there are different kinds of prayer.  While many may think prayer is chiefly asking for something we need, and this is certainly one type of prayer, there are several other distinct types.  Focused reflection on those types may help us to deepen our prayer life and, ultimately, our relationship with God.

Some say the five fingers of one’s hand are a good way to remember the five classic types of prayer:  Thanksgiving, Confession, Intercession, Petition, and Adoration.  We will explore the Scriptural roots of each of these kinds of prayer, along with the ways they appear in the liturgy, and how we use them in our own personal prayer life.

Different voices will lead us, but this will not just be talking about prayer—time will be reserved at the end of each session to pray together in the way we will have just discussed.
