Spring Into Action for Congo

“Spring into Action for Congo,” an education and  advocacy event, will be held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Richmond on Sunday, April 27, 3:30-5:30 p.m. The program will feature documentary film clips as well as a panel discussion, including Immanuel Church-on-the-Hill parishioner Rebecca Cooper, an educator, activist, and co-chair of the Women-to-Women Ministry of the Diocese.

The event is focused on the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where more than six million people have died in the last twenty years through war, war-related disease, and starvation.

Important outreach work is being supported by the Diocese of Virginia in eastern DRC.  The Women-to-Women Ministry of the Diocese has a partner relationship with the Anglican Diocese of Bukavu in eastern DRC.

Rebecca Cooper will be traveling with a small group from the Diocese to DRC in early June. The purpose of the trip is to learn about the trauma situation impacting women and girls of the region who are under the care of the Mother’s Union in Bukavu. In addition, the group will listen and support survivors and uplift our Congolese brothers and sisters who are involved in peace-building efforts.

Please plan to attend “Spring into Action for Congo” to learn more about the conflict in the DRC and our Diocesan partnership.

If you would like more information, please contact Rebecca at rcooper@sssas.org or (703)785-8226.
